Well, Happy New Year everyone! Once again, I’ve been away from this blog for a while. But nevermind, I’m back now – this time with a film review.
Now, my favourite actor is Johnny Depp but I have to say recently I’ve been quite interested in another, extremely talented man – Robert Downey Jr. (On a sidenote – I’ve been thinking: wouldn’t it be fantastic to see Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Jr in a film together – that would become my favourite film, no doubt!)
Yes, by now everyone is well-aware of Robert Downey Jr’s previous problems – it’s mentioned in pretty much every interview he does now! (We all get his run-ins with the law – move on to a new topic already!)
But I’m talking about the Robert Downey Jr we see right now on our screens. That’s one fine actor!
Downey Jr has returned to the top with the blockbuster Iron Man (looking forward to Iron Man 2 this year) and after a switch to comedy playing the Australian playing an African-American (complete with convincing accents) in Ben Stiller’s amusing Tropic Thunder, Downey is back in Sherlock Holmes, Guy Ritchie’s re-interpretation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous fictional detective.

Along with Jude Law (Dr John Watson) and Rachel McAdams (Irene Adler), Downey Jr leads what is an action-packed, entertaining ride through a mysterious story of murder and black magic.
It’s not surprising that Robert Downey Jr shines in this role – he seems to relish in a character that is clever, cheeky, charismatic, good-looking and knows how to pack a punch!
On the otherhand, you have those subtle moments in the film, when Watson and Holmes are almost like a bickering married couple (with Sherlock as the wife, of course).
The film’s received numerous positive reviews and audiences around the world seem to love it.
Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes may very well be the most authentic adaptation of the novels (I am of course, yet to read them for myself though).
Sherlock Holmes is a tougher, more physical character in this film, and Downey’s portrayal of the detective makes me think of Holmes as like a 19th century Dr House – intelligent, observant, rational, sometimes a little rough around the edges but that only makes you warm to him even more.
Nevertheless, this film’s definitely one to go and check out. In this current movie environment, where most films are remakes, sequels, prequels or just plain desperate ideas, Sherlock Holmes is a refreshing reason to go to the cinema.
Yes, it’s a remake of sorts but the film is original in its portrayal of the famous novels and who doesn’t like a good Downey film – that man can act!
[...] brother. I’ve got a good feeling about this one, and if it’s anything like the previous film, we can look forward to plenty of action, wit, mystery and [...]
